Follow guzheng player Xin Tong as she encounters the global cousins of her instrument, seeking not just the music of the zither, but the spirit of the people who play them. The performance brings these human connections to the stage, where she discovers the music and people behind the Japanese Koto, the Finnish Kantele, and the Persian Qanun.
As she encounters these musicians, she picks up new aesthetics for her instrument. The Guzheng, originally playing traditional Chinese music, is reconfigured to embrace new styles inspired by these meetings.
The resulting performance is a living archive of these encounters – we are the sum of the people who have guided us, and every note we strike carries the shadow of a friend and mentor.
