Executive (Admissions, Financial Aid & Outreach)

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), National University of Singapore, seeks a dynamic and highly motivated Executive (Admissions, Financial Aid & Outreach) to join the Student Life Office.

The individual is an integral member of the YST Student Life Office and will be responsible for administering all admission-related matters at the Conservatory by serving as the primary point of contact for prospective students, support admissions and financial aid processes, coordinate outreach initiatives, and oversee a range of specialised music programmes and workshops. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with talented young musicians, faculty members, schools, and arts organisations while contributing to the growth and vibrancy of Singapore’s premier conservatory.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Admissions & Student Recruitment
  • Plan and implement outreach activities to promote YST’s programmes to prospective students in secondary schools, junior colleges, polytechnics, pre-university institutions, and the wider music community.
  • Develop and execute student recruitment campaigns across digital and traditional marketing platforms.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for admissions enquiries from prospective students, parents, teachers, and educational institutions.
  • Administer the YST admissions portal and manage application documentation and records.
  • Coordinate all admissions assessment activities, including scheduling auditions, interviews, and securing venues and resources.
  • Manage assessment materials, grading processes, and admissions records.
  • Prepare and communicate admissions outcomes and related correspondence to applicants.
Financial Aid
  • Administer student financial assistance schemes, including bursaries, scholarships, and the Student Artistic Development Grant.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding financial aid applications and eligibility requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely processing of financial aid matters.
Outreach & External Engagement
  • Coordinate and support outreach initiatives, including NUS Open House, YST Open House, education fairs, school visits, and recruitment events.
  • Represent the Conservatory at outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the NUS Office of Admissions on recruitment campaigns, publications, and admissions-related initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with schools, music educators, and community partners to strengthen recruitment efforts.
Workshops & Special Programmes
  • Manage the operational and administrative requirements of specialised music programmes and workshops, including: Young Composers Academy, YST Pianists Academy, YST Orchestra Academy and the YST Vocal Academy
  • Work closely with faculty members, artists, and external stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery.

Requirements:

  • A degree from a recognised university (music-related qualifications preferred).
  • Strong understanding of music education and the performing arts sector in Singapore.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and spoken English (ability to speak Mandarin is an advantage).
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Creative mindset with an interest in student recruitment, marketing, and audience engagement.
  • Service-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience with design and content creation software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) will be an advantage.
  • Experience in arts administration, music education, event management, or managing arts groups will be an advantage.

Research Associate (Centre for Music and Health)

The Centre for Music and Health (CMH) is the first dedicated research centre in Southeast Asia to spearhead evidence-based research investigating the role of music for supporting health and well-being. Situated in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, one of the leading conservatories in Asia, and embedded within a top-tier research university, CMH is uniquely positioned to bring together artistic practice, scientific research, and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance this emerging field. 

The Centre develops and evaluates music-based programmes, interventions, and technologies to support health and wellbeing at NUS, in Singapore, and beyond. Through interdisciplinary translational research, community partnerships, and rigorous evaluation methods, CMH works to strengthen the evidence base for music and health while developing scalable approaches that can improve people’s lives.

CMH is inviting applications for the role of Research Coordinator. This role is offered on a 1-year renewable contract basis; renewal is subject to satisfactory job performance. (Expected start date: 2 Nov 2026)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with grant writing, writing and submitting IRB ethics applications, collecting data, and organising and overseeing participants’ payment/reimbursement
  • Recruit and liaise with study participants, including advertising research studies through various platforms (e.g., in flyer, email, and social media formats, etc), and be the primary point of contact for study participants 
  • Oversee training of CMH Research Assistants and Student Assistants
  • Contribute to literature reviews, experimental design, sample size power analysis, statistics and data analysis, and manuscript writing
  • Assist with writing up, communicating and disseminating findings/results (in conferences, popular science forums, blogs, social media, etc.) as appropriate

Requirements:

  • A recognised degree in Public Health, Music Psychology, Medicine, or another area of relevance to Arts & Health
  • At least 1 year of prior research experience
  • Experience with empirical research, experimental design, data collection and analysis
  • Excellent academic/research writing abilities
  • Grant writing experience a plus
  • Good organisational and administrative skills
  • Able to work independently, but also a good team player
  • Adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Coordinator, Music as Collaborative Practice (MCP)

The Conservatory is distinctively international in terms of its faculty, student population and artistic outlook. Our mission is to be a focal point for musical activity, artistic development and research, for Singapore, the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond.

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music is launching Music as Collaborative Practice (MCP), a renewed major grounded in a central conviction that the 21st-century musician’s most valuable asset is not virtuosity alone, but the capacity to create meaningfully alongside others. The renewed MCP makes collaboration the curriculum and as the medium through which students master instrumental and vocal technique, composition, aural training, music theory and contextual studies.

YST is seeking an outstanding, experienced music professional to serve as Coordinator of MCP. This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be an imaginative and organised practitioner-educator with a deep commitment to collaborative music-making, strong industry networks, and the ability to build and sustain a programme that integrates real-world project briefs, vertical peer mentorship, and co-designed assessment across a four-year conservatory curriculum.

The Coordinator of MCP will be responsible for:

  • Designing and managing the full operational cycle of MCP from Years 1–4.
  • Building and maintaining a pipeline of partnerships with theatre companies, festivals, NUS faculties, and community organisations, ensuring a steady supply of authentic, audience-facing project commissions for student collaborative groups/ensembles.
  • Recruiting, contracting, and managing a cohort of industry mentors per year, which will include film composers, music directors, sound designers, and producers to coach in residence alongside student groups/ensembles.
  • Coordinating timetable white space with the Academic Office and shared co-working blocks across YST’s academic calendar so that cross-year ensembles have protected time to meet, rehearse, and deliver.
  • Adapting and integrating MCP project cycles with existing YST studio and seminar structures, ensuring vertical mentorship, research–artistic balance, and progressive student autonomy across all four years of the curriculum.
  • Maintaining and developing community and outreach activities, ensuring MCP networks connect YST students with Singapore’s broader musical and cultural ecosystem.
  • Contributing actively in curriculum development and review, teaching, programme documentation, and ongoing collaboration with YST faculty, the Academic Office, and NUS partners to continuously improve the MCP framework.
  • Continuing professional and artistic practice that inform the MCP and YST curriculum.

Requirements for interested applicants include:

  • A PhD or DMA in Composition, Performance or a closely related field of musical practice.
  • Significant professional experience as a music practitioner and music educator, with demonstrable expertise and commitment to collaborative and ensemble-based practice.
  • Proven track record of programme coordination, curriculum development, or project management in a conservatory, arts organisation, or professional music environment.
  • Active industry networks spanning performance, composition, music direction, sound design, or music production, with experience engaging practitioners as educators or mentors.
  • Demonstrated independence, impact and recognition as a performer, researcher and collaborator in multi-genre settings.
  • Strong understanding of conservatory pedagogy and the capacity to work within and across conservatory specialisations while driving a cross-disciplinary collaborative model.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent project cycles and a diverse community of students, faculty, and industry partners.
  • Experience with project-based or outcomes-driven learning frameworks, co-designed assessment, or competency-based education is highly desirable.
  • Experience with digital production tools and literacy in music technology.
  • Commitment to working in a collaborative, innovative, and internationally oriented conservatory environment and high potential in continuing artistic research throughout tenure employment.

Faculty Position in French Horn (Part-Time)

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, offers a unique and adventurous 21st century Asian environment in which we train and educate performers, composers and recording engineers to take advantage of future professional and artistic opportunities both in Singapore and in the world.  The Conservatory is distinctively international in terms of its faculty, student population and artistic outlook.  Our mission is to be a focal point for musical activity, artistic development and research, both for Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.

The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music is seeking an outstanding artist/teacher of French Horn to join its faculty.  This is a part-time position.  The initial term of appointment shall be for one year (renewable).  Applicants should have significant performance experience as a soloist and/or chamber musician and the desire and experience to teach gifted Conservatory students.  In addition to maintaining a dynamic French Horn studio, the candidate will also be active in recruiting students to the Conservatory through both national and international involvement at various levels, including targeted pre-tertiary programs and similar organizations. In addition, the postholder will offer secondary study tuition to a select number of the Conservatory’s instrumental students.

Requirements for interested applicants include:

  • A Masters or good Honours degree in Music or equivalent in areas relevant to conservatory training.
  • An exceptional performer as well as a dedicated teacher with a proven track record of teaching at an elite performance level.
  • Significant performance experience as a soloist and/or orchestra/chamber musician
  • Teaching experience in a conservatory or other tertiary-level institutions focused on professional training in areas of music including performance, pedagogy, and artistic research.
  • A passion for teaching, engaging and supporting undergraduate conservatory students.
  • Works well in a collaborative and innovative conservatory environment.
