Alumni and Student Resonances

YST Conservatory students and alumni have been carving successes and making an impact in the region this past week. Congratulations to everyone!

  • Lien Boon Hua (BMus ’11) has been announced as a candidate for the 1st Hong Kong International Conducting Competition, which will take place from 10 – 14 January 2018. He was one of 18 candidates selected from 310 applications. He is currently the Assistant Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
  • Vadim Shvedchikov (BMus ’15) has been appointed Principal Horn of the Shanghai Opera House. Vadim has also received ‘Best Musician of the Year’ award from the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra.
  • Azariah Tan (BMus ’11) and Wong Kah Chun (BMus ’11) have both been shortlisted for the Singapore Youth Award. The nation’s highest accolade for youth, the Singapore Youth Award honours exceptional young people who enrich the hearts and souls of the community and bring distinction to the nation. Azariah Tan who is hearing-impaired, completed his doctoral studies in at the University of Michigan and is now a staff accompanist at YST while Kah Chun won the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition and is now the chief conductor for the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra.
  • Jirajet Thawornsiri (Year 3) won first place in the Ipoh Music Festival in the Solo (Open) Category.
