Considerations before Applying

Eligibility

Full-time students in YST’s partner schools may apply to come to NUS on exchange provided you meet the following criteria:

• You are nominated by the exchange coordinator from your school. Contact your university’s study abroad or international relations office for application information.
• You must have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate studies before embarking on the exchange programme and must continue to be registered as a degree-seeking students at your home university throughout your intended duration of exchange at NUS.
• You are proficient in English in order to benefit from your studies at NUS. The medium of instruction at NUS is English (except for Asian or European studies, where a good command of the respective Asian or European language is a prerequisite).
• You have prepared your Study Plan after seeking advice from your home university.
• You have secured sufficient funds for personal living expenses for the whole exchange duration.
• You possess the aptitude, motivation and maturity, to thrive in a different academic system and cultural environment.

Study Plan

Before you apply for the exchange programme, you are required to seek your university’s advice and approval for the modules you wish to read while on exchange in YST/NUS. You may refer to NUSMODS (search for Faculty > YST Conservatory of Music, under “Modules” to find the list of modules offered by the Conservatory).

If you wish to read some modules outside of the list offered by YST Conservatory, please email the YST Academic Affairs Office for instructions on how you may register for those modules.

NUS Academic Calendar

Incoming exchange students may choose one of two semesters of study in NUS:

Semester 11 August 2022 – 3 December 2022
Semester 29 January 2023 – 6 May 2023

Financial Considerations

Incoming exchange students will be required to pay their semester tuition fees to their home university during their SEP overseas. They are not required to pay any tuition fees to NUS. However, students are required to pay the following Miscellaneous Student Fees to NUS while on exchange:

Students are responsible for all costs involved with going on SEP, including the cost of their meals, books, travel, insurance, visa application and other miscellaneous expenses.

Below is a list of estimated expenditure a student may likely incur during his or her stay in Singapore. These amounts vary accordingly depending on personal needs and lifestyle pattern. This example excludes non-essentials and major items such as shopping, entertainment, computers, electronic/communication devices, travel plans, etc.
