The Amber Quartet

The Amber Quartet was formed in 2007 at the Central Conservatory of Music in China. The quartet has received first prize in the Central Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Competition and second prize in the Golden Bell String Quartet Competition in China.

Each member of the quartet has studied with Professor Yun Chen and Professor Bing Yu. The ensemble has undertaken international tours in countries such as England, France, Germany, Australia, America and Japan, and in early 2013 the quartet was accepted into the Institute International de Musica de Camara de Madrid to study with musicians such as Günter Pichler from the Alban Berg Quartet.

The Amber Quartet pays special attention to the expression and innovation of Chinese music worldwide, and has premiered multiple original works of Chinese string quartet, and has rearranged many traditional Chinese music works for the string quartet, presenting those rearrangements internationally. Its premiere of Yu-xiu’s Tenderness Way to Government Dignitaries was met with critical acclaim. Other notable performances have included world premieres of the works Suite of the High Hill by Si-Cong Ma, and Song of Tree by Mikko Heini. The quartet members name the Alban Berg String Quartet as one that they all admire.
