Singapore Chinese Orchestra and YST seal partnership with MOU

The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore (YST) have signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on talent development and artistic initiatives.

Principal Conductor of SCO, Mr Quek Ling Kiong and Dean of YST, Professor Peter Tornquist signed the agreement on 20 Jan 2024. This was witnessed by SCO Board Chairman Mr Ng Siew Quan and YST Vice Dean Associate Professor Ho Chee Kong.

The signing took place directly before the SCO-YST Campus Rhapsody concert held at the Conservatory Concert Hall, which marked SCO’s first performance at YST.

Under the agreement, the two organisations seek to promote talent development and industry exposure for YST students, facilitate professional development for SCO musicians through connection with YST continuing education and other educational initiatives, and collaborate on artistic initiatives to further the growth of the music sector.

Mr Terence Ho, Executive Director of SCO shared, “We endeavour to deepen our collaboration, and strive to establish a robust music ecosystem to enhance partnerships in the areas of music composition and arts administration, as well as tap on YST’s continuing education initiatives.”

Professor Peter Tornquist said, “It is our pleasure to establish this new partnership with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, which will help advance the Conservatory’s connections with the industry as well as enable wider artistic opportunities for our students. We look forward to the further collaborations that lie ahead.”
