Martin Jaggi was born in Basel, Switzerland. He studied cello and composition in Basel, Zurich and Hamburg with Reinhard Latzko and Walter Grimmer (cello); Rudolf Kelterborn, Detlev Müller-Siemens and Manfred Stahnke (composition); as well as chamber music with the Trio del Trieste in Duino (Italy). 

From 2000-2013 he was a member of the piano quartet Mondrian Ensemble, which he co-founded and with whom he won several prices. Martin Jaggi is a member of the Ensemble Phoenix Basel and a principal cellist of the Basel Sinfonietta. As a chamber musician and soloist, he has performed in many festivals and concert halls in over 30 countries.

As a composer, Martin Jaggi has been performed at many festivals, including Donaueschinger Musiktage, Festival Archipel, Lucerne Festival, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Remusik St. Petersburg, and Eilat Chamber Music Festival. He received commissions by numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles, including Basel Symphony Orchestra, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, SWR Symphony Orchestra, Basel Sinfonietta, Basel Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Camerata, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Collegium Novum Zurich, Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Ensemble Proton, Ensemble Ö, Austrian Ensemble for New Music, Ensemble Vortex, Ensemble for New Music Zurich, Mondrian Ensemble, Camerata Variable, and Merel Quartet. Martin Jaggi’s music has been performed by conductors such as Dennis Russel Davies, Paavo Järvi, Pierre-Andre Valade, Stefan Asbury, Johannes Kalitzke, Jonathan Stockhammer, James Gaffigan, Jürg Henneberger, and has been played in over 30 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa.
