Belonging to a new generation of international classical musicians who defy easy categorization, flutist Eric Lamb has forged a dynamic and multifaceted career as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, guest principal, recording artist, and educator. Formerly a core member of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Eric now performs regularly with many of the world’s leading orchestras and new music ensembles. His guest appearances include performances with the Boulez Ensemble, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Camerata, the Cleveland Orchestra, Camerata Bern, PHACE, ASKO|Schönberg Ensemble, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Omega Ensemble (Sydney), Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, and more. He has appeared at major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Darmstadt Summer Courses, Lockenhaus, Acht Brücken (Cologne), Mostly Mozart (New York), Heidelberg Spring Festival, Aix-en-Provence, Holland Festival, Beijing Modern Music Festival, and the Bucharest New Music Festival. A committed advocate for contemporary music, Eric has premiered over 200 new works, collaborating closely with composers including Enno Poppe, Sir George Benjamin, Kaija Saariaho, George Lewis, Michael Jarrell, John Adams, Julia Purgina, Ivan Buffa, HK Gruber, Matthias Pintscher, and Nico Muhly. He has worked with conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Franz Welser-Möst, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Susanna Mälkki, Pablo Heras-Casado, and Steve Schick. Eric‘s discography, spanning more than 15 commercially released albums, reflects a repertoire that ranges from Bach, Telemann, and Schubert to Xenakis, Jason Eckhardt, and even the indie band Passion Pit. He records for labels including Kairos, paladino, SONY, Hyperion, NMC, mode, New Amsterdam, NAXOS, Bridge, Starkland, and Nonesuch. In parallel with his work in contemporary music, Eric is an active researcher in historical performance practice. His scholarly work focuses on 17th- and 18th-century flute repertoire, including newly edited editions of solo works by Quantz, Tromlitz, Blochwitz, and Blavet, as well as arrangements of works by Bach and Mozart. His critically acclaimed debut solo album Quantz: Solo Flute Music includes the premiere recording of Quantz’s 8 Caprices. In 2018, he released Quantz: Flute Concertos, featuring four newly edited concertos recorded with the Kölner Akademie and conductor Michael Alexander Willens (Profil Edition Hänssler).
