YST x SYPO: A Young Person’s Guide – Traditions in Bloom

As the new year unfolds, the Singapore Youth Philharmonic Orchestra joins forces with YST orchestral musicians, performing side by side under the direction of Luo Wei in this special family concert celebrating renewal, heritage, and transformation.
From the festive brilliance of Joy of Spring and the communal dance rhythms of Dance of the Yao People, to the fiery exuberance of Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, the program traces folk traditions as they blossom into symphonic splendor.
The concert culminates in Benjamin Britten’s much-loved The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra—a lively, guided tour of the orchestra itself, as each family of instruments steps into the spotlight before reuniting in a dazzling finale, demonstrating how inherited themes can be continually reimagined anew.
Presented as a guided concert experience and brought to life through the side-by-side collaboration of YST and SYPO musicians, Traditions in Bloom honors cultural roots in motion—and the diverse musical voices that come together to shape the symphonic orchestra.
