Round off the 2025/26 season with the YST Orchestral Institute in a programme that spans centuries and styles—from Haydn’s classical brilliance, to Pärt’s luminous stillness, and Shostakovich’s searing intensity.
The concert opens with Haydn’s Symphony No. 100 (“Military”), delighting with its bold fanfares, playful contrasts, and vivid orchestral colour, showcasing the composer’s wit and imagination at the height of his London years. Pärt’s Fratres follows, a contemplative and meditative work for winds, strings, and percussion, unfolding in shimmering textures and timeless stillness.
The evening culminates in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, composed amid political turmoil and long heard as a work of dual meanings—its public gestures of triumph shot through with an unmistakable undercurrent of impassioned struggle.
Under the baton of Principal Conductor Jason Lai, join us at the Esplanade Concert Hall for this season finale, celebrating the versatility of the orchestra and the enduring power of music across time and tradition.
