Charting Pathways '21 - Nigel Foo

17 June 2021

NIGEL FOO ('21, Harp)

A few harp friends and I started a harp quartet named La Vie En Harpe in 2020. I have always been passionate about harp ensemble music since it is part of how I got to know and love the harp, and it has been great to see that even in the midst of the COVID pandemic, a simple thing like getting together to record a collage music video could blossom into something so exciting. We have truly enjoyed our previous performances and we are looking forward to presenting our next show coming up in July.

My major teacher, Ms Gulnara Mashurova – she has given me tons of great advice and guidance throughout my years in YST. She is definitely like a mother to the Harp studio.

The friendships I gained from the Harp studio and my classmates are invaluable, and they have given me both confidence and courage to propel myself forward in my harp life.

I would also like to thank the Student Life Office for being supportive to all the students here in YST.

I will be staying in Singapore to pursue a Master’s degree at YST.

I would love to open my own harp studio to educate the future generations of harpists and to produce more shows that provide the audience of Singapore and perhaps the region with much more insight into the harp.

It would be the Music Programming & Production class. It helped me translate the show ideas I had in my mind into words and build the necessary skills to realise them in future. The class led to an opportunity to create and produce a harp and flamenco show for the Esplanade eXchΔnge series later this year, which is an exciting exploration for me.
