Charting Pathways '21 - Ilysia Tan

16 June 2021

ILYSIA TAN ('21, Composition)

The most significant project was my final year independent project/exhibition/performance/installation ilysia_world1 – the craziest, most difficult thing I had ever done. Held at the Gillman Barracks, it was my first public-facing debut as a composer, producer, curator, project manager, etc, and I am surprised I pulled it off! Due to COVID restrictions in the school, people outside of NUS couldn’t attend concerts held in YST. I wanted to bring my works and music to the people I write music for (friends, family, artists, the public).

Noah – my partner who enables me and supports my ambitious dreams. Bani and ila – my favourite everything mentors; their existence comforts me and shows me the strength of humanity. Assoc Prof Peter Edwards – my favourite professor who believed in my potential and let me adventure out of the borders.
I plan to work for a few years in Singapore to fulfil my tuition grant bond and also to participate in Singapore’s booming art scene. There are so many talented artists/musicians that I would love to work with!
Interdisciplinary Electronic Arts Survey – this class was taught by Bani Haykal. I learned that art could exist and coexist in so many different forms! Bani showed us the mindset and parameters that allowed more freedom when dreaming and creating.
