Charting Pathways '21 - Elizabeth Low

ELIZABETH LOW ('21, Piano)

My second and third years in YST were the busiest and most meaningful. I took part in two competitions – the 2019 Conservatory Concerto Competition, where I had the privilege to perform Mendelssohn’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Conservatory Orchestra, and the Indonesia International Piano Competition, where I was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2019 Professional Senior Category. Right after that, I travelled to Italy for the Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival, where I met so many brilliant pianists and studied under renowned professors – all in gorgeous Amalfi. I chose to participate in all these projects and events to broaden my perspectives as a musician, to create meaningful connections with people and to travel around the world for endless inspiration.

I would not have been able to accomplish my goals without the endless support and guidance from my parents and major teacher, Prof Thomas Hecht.

While scouting for graduate schools and opportunities outside school, my professor once said something to me that guided me in my research process: “What makes you unique, and what will you do about it?”

It would be Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring – my time in YST has been extremely busy and eventful, because I wanted every moment to count.
