Charting Pathways '21 - Danilo Ignacio Contreras Osorio

25 June 2021

DANILO IGNACIO CONTRERAS OSORIO ('21, Trombone)

Brassissimo Brass Quintet, formed with a few like-minded YST friends, was definitely my most important project over the past four years. I owe to it a huge part of my growth as a person and a musician. Across the Aspen Music Festival, Jeju International Brass Competition, performances around Singapore, rehearsals, meals and all other times spent together, our time together as a group and as friends has a really special place in my mind, heart, and in my career.

I couldn’t have come as far as I have if it wasn’t for my former teacher Mr Zachary Bond, who I had the chance to study with in my freshmen year. Mr Marques Young and Mr Sam Armstrong, beyond being my trombone teachers, have become part of my family. Also, Assoc Prof Brett Stemple, Mr Allen Meek, Ms Jenny Lee and the whole YST family who really made me feel that I’ve spent four of the best years of my life in the right place.

I’ll be pursuing my Master’s degree at The Tianjin Juilliard School and looking to audition for different orchestras around the world.

I have become a more patient person with others and especially myself, and I’ve learned that by trying to rush things I’ll leave many holes in my path which will definitely have an impact one day. Also, I have become a much more organised and chill person. I would tell my Year 1 self, “Man, patience is the key, Practice slow, stay cool, put soul into it and the day will come”.
