YST is deeply honoured to announce the new Tan Eng Chin Scholarship, made possible by an endowed gift from Mr Tan Kah Tee in memory of his late father.
A lover of Chopin’s music and an admirer of classical artistry, Mr Tan Eng Chin believed deeply in the value of education and the power of music to uplift lives. He was former Chairman of Asia General Holdings, Asia Insurance, and Asia Life Assurance. The Tan Eng Chin Scholarship will support one deserving Bachelor of Music student each year at YST, majoring in Piano or Cello. It is open to students of all nationalities and will provide meaningful support for their artistic journey.
This gift is part of Mr Tan Kah Tee’s longstanding and heartfelt support for YST, which has thus far included gifts of three concert grand pianos and support for Igudesman & Joo’s 2018 concert at the Conservatory. In 2024, Mr Tan was recognised as a Distinguished Patron of the Arts by the National Arts Council for his philanthropy.
We are grateful for Mr Tan Kah Tee’s continued generosity in supporting young music talents and look forward to the exciting artistry it will energise.
