ABOUT THIS EVENT
It is difficult to imagine a world without the music of Vienna’s Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven: the trinity of Classical Music at the turn of the 18th-century. Connecting to the theme of the season, Haydn’s deeply personal interpretation of The Seven Last Words of Christ deals with the concept of exaltation after an ultimate sacrifice. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14 is considered one of the earliest works of his mature period, exuberating different shades of joy throughout its three movements. Beethoven’s 4th symphony is perhaps one of his most virtuosic orchestral pieces, which to this day continues to demand a tremendous amount of technical facility and musical prowess from musicians; this could explain why it is undeservingly overshadowed by his enduring 5th symphony.
This performance will be led by returning Ong Teng Cheong Professor in Music, the charismatic Gábor Takács-Nagy.
