Sound is generally known to be a result of vibration, but is it known to be capable of producing colour? _Painting Sounds_ aims to explore the possibilities of colours that sounds (in the form of music) can produce. This exploration will be based on repertoire from the flute and bassoon as they possess extreme contrasts in character, yet are able to blend together and produce a new palette of colours. |

Johannes Brahms and Hugo Wolf both loved German lyric poetry and each composed a great many Lieder. Brahms’ more conservative approach can be seen as a continuation of the great tradition of the Lieder of Schubert and Schumann. Hugo Wolf’s songs, in contrast, are considered to be more progressive and demonstrate the influences of Wagner (whose music he admired) while also maintaining a deep connection to the more traditional approach. This performance explores connections and comparisons across the two. |
