From 11-16 March, students Ilysia Tan and Nigel Foo took part in the 2019 SEADOM Congress at the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, where they were able to broaden their musical exposure and network with students, educators and music institution leaders from the region and beyond. Their attendance was generously supported by the Chenter Foundation.

Moving the Needle in Miri

From 24-30 September 2018, eight YST students embarked on a journey of musical sharing across Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei and Miri, Malaysia. Initiated by Year 3 Trumpet student Lau Hui Ping, the project sought to engage students with professional music instruction, contribute to teaching practices in the community, and hone pedagogical skills for YST students.

Beginning in Semester 1 of the 2018/19 academic year, the YST Conservatory will be offering a new Minor in Music & Society that specifically focuses on music’s societal dimension. Students will appreciate the broad disciplinary outreach in the minor programme that encompasses the study of music in potential social, political, economic and aesthetic contexts.

Applications are now open for the Singapore International Violin Competition (SIVC), which returns to YST Conservatory in Jan - Feb 2018. The competition expects a pool of world-class talent to grace Singapore’s concert hall stages.
