Adagio. Mesto – Belà Bartók in memoriamVl. Molto vivace. Capriccioso \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nBritish composer and biographer Robert Simpson wrote\, “Nielsen’s fondness of wind instruments is closely related to his love of nature\, his fascination for living\, breathing things. He was also intensely interested in human character\, and in the Wind Quintet composed deliberately for five friends\, each part is cunningly made to suit the individuality of each player.” The music will bring you all to the situation created by the composer. Next\, a bagatelle is a trifle or something of little importance. When Ligeti wrote six little bagatelles\, though\, he created what is now a standard in the woodwind quintet repertoire. Each of these pieces has a unique personality of its own\, and six different stories are told\, with the help of a bit of imagination. Imagine a group of children full of energy in their wonderful childhood. This concert will bring you all the different perspectives to look inside the music. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nFree admission. \nOut of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \nTo help keep our community safe\, here are the measures that we will be adhering to: \n• Only individuals who are fully vaccinated or exempted from Vaccination-Differentiated Safe Management Measures (VDS)* may be admitted to performances with more than 500 audience members. \n• *Exempted from VDS: Individuals who have recovered from a COVID-19 infection and are within 180 days of their first positive test result\, individuals who are medically ineligible for COVID-19 vaccination\, and children aged 12 and below. \n• All audience members must warrant that all vaccination and VDS information is correct when requested for disclosure. \n• All audience members must consent to the collection\, use and disclosure of personal data in relation to the ticket holders’ vaccination and VDS data. \n• Do bring along your photo identification and proof of vaccination. Experience the music of our time\, here and now\, with a full line-up of premieres at Soundbites: Sounding Now. \nThe concert kicks off with Alicia Diva Chandra’s electronic work Organised Cacophony\, which used the programming environment Sonic Pi to generate its musical components. Chua Zi Tao’s Composition for Electric Guitar and Modular Synthesizer follows with an exploration of live signal processing between both electronic instruments. Chong Heng Li’s Emergence for solo violin transports one to an intimate\, yet powerful sound world that fuses elements from works such as Missy Mazzoli’s Vespers\, Chen Zhangyi’s Four Reflections\, and the standard Moon River. Chua Zi Tao’s Exuviations is a 5-movement work for violin\, yangqin\, and piano\, originally presented alongside dance students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in collaboration with choreographer Dan Kwoh. The concert rounds off with Cliff Tan’s Lapis for large ensemble\, which was inspired by the current “genreless” movement in modern rock and is presented here as part of the composer’s final year project. \nProgramme booklet \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nFree Admission via Eventbrite registration only.
