These preludes have distinctive programmatic titles which Debussy placed at the end\, so that performers learn each prelude without being influenced by the titles beforehand. Another distinctive feature is that the 12 preludes in the first book are written on two staves\, while all 12 in the second book make use of three staves\, making the dense textures easier to read.  \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nFree Admission. \nOut of respect for the participants and other spectators\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \n*All event information is correct at the time of print.

SUMMARY:Performers(') Present 2023: Flow States
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS EVENT \nThis improvisation concert is a meeting of musical cultures and genres. Karst de Jong plays for the first time in concert with Shugorei\, a highly adventurous duo from Brisbane. Shugorei features a lively combination of percussion and electronics\, mingling bricolage\, found sounds and extended techniques with sample-mangling and exotic sound synthesis\, all bound together with elemental melodic shapes and driving rhythms. Expanded with the piano and electronics of Karst de Jong\, the trio explores various Flow States\, blurring boundaries between electronic and acoustic sounds in spontaneous and pre-conceived improvisations\, mixing diverse and contrasting musical influences. \nAbout the Performers \nShugorei is a sparkling\, invigorating\, highly adventurous music duo featuring live percussion and electronics\, with key performers Nozomi Omote and Thomas Green\, often augmented by a selection of classical instruments and guests. Combining unusually diverse influence including IDM and classical music\, Shugorei is uniquely\, distinctly vivacious. Vibraphone\, digital samples\, analogue synthesis\, drums and bricolage come together in painstakingly composed and improvised instrumental works. Additionally\, Shugorei has a cross-cultural aspect; Nozomi Omote explores a melding of Western musicianship with her Japanese background. Likewise\, Thomas Green’s music draws on a globe-spanning array of influence.   \n  \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nTickets $10 via Eventbrite. \nOut of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \n*All event information is correct at time of print. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list.

SUMMARY:Soundbites: Dawn by Cao Huiying
DESCRIPTION:CAO HUIYING (B.Mus3)\, celloLIU JIA\, piano \nPROGRAMME \nSERGEI RACHMANINOFFSonata in G minor for Cello and Piano\, Op. 19I. Lento – Allegro moderatoII. Allegro scherzandoIII. AndanteIV. Allegro mossoVocalise in E minor\, Op. 34\, No. 14 \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nThis event was held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s birth\, which consists of his iconic works for cello and piano. \nThe Sonata in G Minor was composed in 1901\, the same year as his piano concerto No.2. Rachmaninoff dedicated this work to Russian cellist Anatoliy Brandukov\, who gave the first performance in Moscow with the composer himself. However\, Rachmaninoff did not consider the piece to be a sonata for cello and piano. The majority of the themes begin with the piano and then are extended by the cello\, which is why it is more ofterly known as sonata for the cello and piano. \nThe Vocalise was composed in 1915 as the last of his 14 Songs or 14 Romances\, Op.34. It was originally written for high voice with piano accompaniment\, without any words. Rachmaninoff dedicated to soprano singer Antonina Nezhdanova. It has variations for different instrumental combinations. \nAbout “Dawn” \nDawn is the arrival of hope. In my perspective\, music is the dawn for Rachmaninoff. When the sun rises\, a new day begins… \nClouds move\, birds sing… \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nFree Admission. \nOut of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \n* All event information is correct at time of print. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list.
