ModeratoII. Adagio sostenutoIII. Allegro scherzando \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THIS EVENT \n\n\n\n\nOne of the magical elements of performative art is its inherent ephemerality. Musicians\, whether they are the concerto soloist\, the conductor\, or the supportive tutti orchestra\, intuitively understand the wonderfully fleeting nature of a concert performance. When composers capture the creative spark – in Prokofiev’s case\, the musical-portrait vignettes of his Visions fugitives– they also tap into these fleeting resonances. \nCome join us for this concert featuring a selection of Prokofiev’s Op. 22 piano miniatures arranged for a full orchestra by students from the YST Composition Studio\, as well as two vibrant concerto performances: Karol Szymanowsky’s Concerto for Violin No.  2 – the composer’s last major work – celebrates Polish highlander folk traditions and featuring YST concerto prize-winner violinist Leonid Datsiuk\, while Rachmaninoff’s triumphant Piano Concert No. 2 – representing the composer’s victory over his own creative fugitives – will be wonderfully captured by YST concerto prize-winner pianist Wang Chien-Jou. \n\nThis event is supported by: \n \n\n\n\n  \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nTickets at $10 via Eventbrite. \nOut of respect for the participants and other spectators\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \n*All event information is correct at the time of print.

SUMMARY:Mathemusical Encounters: Mystery Machines - Closing Concert
DESCRIPTION:Programme Notes \nPROGRAMME \nHEINRICH IGNAZ FRANZ BIBERMystery Sonata No. 14 in D major\, “The Assumption of Mary” \nBRENDA KOH\, baroque violinLESLIE TAN\, baroque celloVANESSA JAZZY IRWANTO (B.Mus2)\, harpMERVYN LEE\, baroque guitar \nLIKE A BRIDGE \nKARST DE JONG\, pianoGÉRARD ASSAYAG\, Somax2 generative electronics  \nELEZ/BOULAINE \nELAINE CHEW\, piano \nGÉRARD ASSAYAG\, Somax2 generative electronics  \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nMusic and machines have a long-standing relationship\, whether we’re talking about the machinery of compositional thought\, the Baroque material devices imagined by Kircher or Mersenne\, or the most recent developments in computers and artificial intelligence. \nThis concert offers a journey from Biber’s Baroque music to the second half of the XXth century reinterpreted through the prism of improvisation and interaction with these mysterious machines.\nThe Rosary (Mystery) Sonatas by H.I.F Biber is a collection of 15 sonatas for violin and continuo and a final solo passacaglia for violin. Each sonata depicts a mystery of the Rosary\, and the collection displays Biber’s extensive use of the scordatura (or “discordant tuning”) technique. Sonata No. 14 is written after the Assumption of Mary\, one of the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary.\nBridge from ancient music to the masters of modernity\, Karst de Jong will improvise freely and interact with generative live electronics system\, effectively creating a path through time and genres.\nElaine Chew will travel her own way from there trough pages written by some of these masters such as Ravel\, Messiaen and Boulez\, inspiring the dreams of the machine\, which will in turn intervene in her game and create an unheard-of-dialogue.\n \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list.\nTICKETING INFORMATION \nFree admission via registration only. \nOut of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \nPlease refer to ystmusic.nus.edu.sg for the latest event updates.
