Prospective applicants currently enrolled in a Singapore school leading to one of the above qualifications in a few years time may also apply but should note that early admission on Exceptional Talent Basis is rare and subject to earning a high score at the audition, sufficient English language proficiency, strong recommendation from faculty and the Conservatory Admissions Committee, evidence of exceptional success (eg, awards in competitions) and with further approval from NUS Senior Management and Ministry of Education.
Prospective applicants in Singapore secondary schools, junior colleges, polytechnics or other schools who demonstrate outstanding performance abilities and potential for music studies but not recommended for early admission may also be offered a place in the Young Artist Programme, subject to the recommendation of the faculty.
YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAMME
The Young Artist Programme is offered to students who demonstrate high potential for music performance during the auditions. These students are expected to be enrolled in Singapore schools and are normally aged 15 to 18.
The programme is conducted by Conservatory faculty members and provides a place to groom these young students up till the point when they become eligible for enrolment, so the course duration is from the time they enter the programme until they transfer to the undergraduate programme.
Enrolment in the Young Artist Programme provides a specialised pathway for students who are very advanced in their performance abilities to start earning academic credits that are transferable to the BMus programme at a later stage. Students demonstrating exceptional talent and aptitude through attaining high scores at the annual jury will have the opportunity for early admission on exceptional talent basis with certain criteria and subject to the approval from NUS Senior Management and the Ministry of Education.
Young Artists who continue on the programme until they transfer to the BMus programme after completing senior high school studies with appropriate qualifications for university admission, can also transfer academic credits and fast-track to commence BMus study as a second or third-year student.
