Singapore Chinese Orchestra

Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), inaugurated in 1997, is Singapore’s only professional national Chinese orchestra. SCO, made up of more than 80 musicians, occupies the Singapore Conference Hall, which is a national monument. With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as its patron, SCO takes on the twin role of preserving traditional arts and culture and establishing its unique identity through the incorporation of Southeast Asian cultural elements in its music.

CELLO (Sectional Position)

The SCO would like to invite applications from outstanding musicians for the Cello Sectional Position.


Possess a minimum of tertiary qualification in music performance and preferably with experience in playing in an orchestra.

Application and Audition Requirement:

1. Applications must include:

  • A completed Application Form

  • A copy of your full resume

  • An audio CD recording of the required repertoire.

2. Required repertoire should include:

  • One solo concerto (1st movement only) from the romantic or classical period (for example, Haydn or Dvorak)

  • One selection of prelude and gigue (without repeat) from any of the six suites for unaccompanied cello by J S Bach

3. All recordings are to fulfil the following requirements:

  • Please indicate the applicant’s name and names of the pieces on the CD

  • Contains no speaking or identifiable sounds

  • Contains no imagery or video

  • Has not been digitally enhanced or edited

  • Contains no accompaniment

Applicants whose recordings do not meet the above requirements will not be considered.
