Marques Young began his musical studies at the age of 12 under with the euphonium under the direction of Gordon Manley. At 16, he was also playing the trombone and in 2001 was accepted into the Arkansas Tech University School of Music, then studying under Dr. Will Kimball.

In 2003, he began his studies at the Juilliard School under Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic. In that time, Marques found continued success in solo competitions which led him to a principal position in the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Having shared the stage with jazz greats like Benny Golson, Paquinto D’Rivera, and Wynton Marsalis, Marques is also backed by an impressive list of past performances, namely for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as opening for Jose James, BabyFace and Hiatus Kaiyote with the band Bassment Syndicate.

Spring of 2016, Marques released his solo debut in the form of a visual EP. Titled “Duel Citizenship”, under his performance name “Q Sound” and his EP is accompanied by a series of short films. The final instalment “Broken  Glass” was released on the same day as his official EP launch, making it a double celebration. Inspired by personal experiences and with the help of emerging filmmaker Al Ibrahim, the short films are a visual diary that brings to life the conflicts and struggles chronicled in Q Sound’s EP. The Duel Citizenship EP would later go on to be nominated for two Anugerah Industri Muzik awards (AIM). Marques has also maintains a busy schedule of performing in major jazz festivals across Asia as well as Europe as well as curating performances for this big band, The 2ndLine.
