Russian pianist Kerim Vergazov was born in St. Petersburg. He received his Masters degree in piano from the Leningrad State Conservatory, studying with Prof Roman Lebedev.
He won the First Prize at the All-Union Piano Competition in 1979, he was also awarded the first prize at the Sergei Rachmaninof Piano Competition in 1985 and first prize at the Internetional Music Competition in Kiev and Lvov in 2000. As a soloist Kerim has performed with the Leningrad Philharmonic Symphony, National Symphony of Kazakhstan, St Petersburg Opera House and so on. He has also performed with conductors such as Nikolai Gribanov, Andrew Vasiilevsky and Tugan Sohiev.
Kerim was a full-time piano accompanist for 18 years at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory in the Departments of Choral Conducting, Orchestra Conducting, French Horn, Bassoon, Opera direction and Vocal Studies. He was a piano accompanist at the Mariinsy Theatre from 1992 to 1995, at the Leningrad State Special Music School for Gifted Children from 1981 to 1986, Theatre Shattelet (Paris) and Berlin Comedy Opera. He has also worked in conducting studios of the legendary founder of Leningrad's conducting school - Ilia Musin, Yuri Temirkanov and Alexander Polishiyuk.
Kerim joined the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in 2004 as an accompanist and a senior lecturer in accompanying and sight-reading studio for piano students. Kerim has been actively involved in chamber music and classes of collaborative piano. Besides the violin studio he has also worked in the Cello, Bassoon and Oboe studios. Based on his previous experiences, he has guided students in accompanying conducting classes. He has mentored students to participate in competitions where many students have achieved top prizes. Kerim has performed at top concert venues in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Russia.
Currently, he leads masterclasses in solo piano playing and chamber music in Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He is invited as a visiting Professor at the annual Rhodes International Music Festival in Greece. Since 2008, Kerim has been organizing the "From Russia With Love" concert series in collaboration with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Kerim is also an Art Director and regular coach to the professional groups 'Viva La Musica' and 'Ensemble Singapore Japan' in Singapore. In 2014, he judged at the Great Melody Music Competition in Hong Kong.
