Mervin is a consultant at Republic Polytechnic, where he develops and conducts staff development workshops, and works with academic teams on curriculum development. Prior to this he was Director, Academic Affairs (Quality & Standards) and Director, School of Information and Communications Technology at the polytechnic. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and has completed senior executive programmes at INSEAD and the University of Hawa'ii. Before he joined Republic Polytechnic, Mervin worked in leading technology corporations in senior technical and management positions. Mervin has been involved in amateur music-making through most of his school, undergraduate and working life. In his younger days he was a pioneer member of the Singapore Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Youth Orchestra and NUS Symphony Orchestra, and represented Singapore at several Asian and ASEAN Youth Music Camps. In his spare time Mervin organises the Chamber Players, a music group consisting mainly of working professionals. He also writes occasional concert reviews for the Straits Times. He is Founder/Director of the Singapore Chamber Music Festival, and serves on the board of the T'ang Quartet.
