ABOUT THIS EVENT
Since the arrival of military bands in the early 19th century, wind music has been a well-enjoyed genre in Singapore. Beginning with the Singapore government's initiation of school band programmes in 1965, the scene has now grown into 190 bands with diverse goals islandwide, with an estimated 20,000 students having benefited from music education through learning wind music in the past 25 years.
Given the unique history of wind music performance in Singapore, the newly-formed YST Wind Consort is proud to be presenting music of this special genre and continuing its long tradition, performing classics by composers Grainger, Stravinsky, Bernstein, Persichetti, Sousa, as well as Singaporean composer Lee Jinjun (BMus ’16, Trumpet) and Dr. Nick Omiccioli (Assistant Professor, Composition and Music Studies).
