Flowing through ten countries, the majestic Danube has inspired generations of culture along its banks, of which one of the most iconic is certainly Johann Strauss II’s “Blue Danube Waltz”, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. Conducted by Gábor Takács-Nagy (whose childhood home was near the banks of the Danube), this special concert will see an international commemoration of music, written since the birth of the famous waltz along the Danube and its tributaries, performed by musicians from major music schools from Austria(the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz), Germany (Hanover University of Music Drama and Media), Hungary (Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music) and Romania (National University of Music Bucharest), who will work alongside YST Conservatory students. The concert, inspired originally by an idea from the Austrian Ambassador to Singapore sees the Conservatory working in partnership not only with these schools but also with the Austrian, German, Hungarian and Romanian embassies at a time when the river is seen as one of Europe’s most telling symbols of unity.
