SUMMARY:Chamber Singers: Saiko No Anime
DESCRIPTION:Join the YST Chamber Singers for an evening of choral music appreciation\, featuring works from a diverse repertoire of vocal ensemble performance. \nOnce a window to look into Japanese culture\, ‘Anime’ used to be associated with subcultures of the teens and ‘Otaku’/geeks. Now\, it is a global pop culture influencing many in not just cosplaying but also in arts and music. We choristers appreciate all the best music and stories found in the anime – probably many of which hold a special place for the nerds in our hearts. Beyond the fan favorites classics from Studio Ghibli\, let us dive into music from ‘Suzume’\, ‘Attack on Titan’\, and ‘Evangelion’ to name a few. We might even throw in a couple tunes by J-pop dynamic Duo\, YOASOBI for good measure. What’s YOUR favorite anime/ anime music? Come and explore with us this semester!  \n  \nPROGRAMME \nGASTON LIEW (BMus2)\, guest vocalistARI ANJOU\, guest vocalistANIQ RUSYAIDI (BMus2)\, guest vocalistCAVE QUARTETYNUSC BARBERSHOP CHORUSGABRIEL HOE\, pianoYST CHAMBER SINGERS \nJOE HISAISHII. SUMMARY:Subito con forza! – Orchestral Institute Plays Beethoven\, Rachmaninoff and Chin
DESCRIPTION:We round off the …3\, 4! season with powerful orchestral masterworks from across times and contexts\, presented by the YST Orchestral Institute under the baton of Principal Conductor Jason Lai at the Esplanade Concert Hall. \nThe concert begins with South Korean composer Unsuk Chin’s subito con forza (suddenly with force)\, composed in honour of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary in 2020. The piece draws inspiration from his constant search for new directions and use of enormous contrasts\, “from volcanic eruptions to extreme serenity”. \nAptly\, we then follow this homage with Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont\, one of his most popular works conceived for the stage (for a Goethe tragedy)\, and an expression of triumphant martyrdom outshining tragedy. Concluding the evening is Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony\, an emotional “tour de forza!” – one of the composer’s most beloved orchestral works\, written after a deep depression after the premiere of his first symphony; a true celebration of artistry in the face of adversity. \n  \nPROGRAMME \nYST ORCHESTRAL INSTITUTEwithJASON LAI\, conductor \nUNSUK CHINsubito con forza \nLUDWIG VAN BEETHOVENOverture to Egmont \n– Intermission (20 min) – \nSERGEI RACHMANINOFFSymphony No. 2 in E minor\, Op. 27 \nProgramme Notes \n  \nTICKETING INFORMATION \nTickets from $15-60 via SISTIC. \nOut of respect for the participants and other spectators\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission. \nBe the first to hear about our upcoming events!
