SUMMARY:Genfree 002 - The Thing That Makes the World Go 'Round
DESCRIPTION:DAVID LOKE\, violinJONATHAN SHIN\, pianoRIT XU\, fluteJOACHIM THEODORE LIM\, percussion \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nMaduro & YST Conservatory presentGENFREE /ˈdʒænˌˈfri/ n. Event Etymology: Music from the middle ground1. A wordplay on the intersection of genre and free2. A midweek evening of music presented by students\, faculty and alumni of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music streamed live from Maduro that adopts classical music as a springboard into a lexicon of musical genres comprising jazz\, folk\, improvisation and the ilk\, insofar as to crossover into the realm of mixology. \nPicking up from a doleful debut that delved into the spot between bitter and sweet wherein lied the key of G minor\, we return a little wiser\, a little heartened\, doe-eyed and bushy tailed as multifaceted violinist David Loke and pianist-composer Jonathan Shin—along with Rit Xu on flute and Joachim Lim on percussion—of the Lorong Boys return to the stage to give you a musical education in the birds and the bees. Namely\, the birds that appear and the bees that linger when you are near. \nWe’re talking love\, baby. The good\, the bad\, the ride-or-die ugly; the buffoonery of a great love that came\, conquered and turned entire lives upside down. With classical music as a springboard into the lexicon of genres\, let the boys take you on a romantic stroll down the canal of love songs\, charting through the classics with Romances by the likes of Saint-Saëns and one of our own\, right down to modern-day love songs that are sure to strike a chord. Or an arrow. Guess whose?\nGENFREE 002 explores The Thing That Makes the World Go ‘Round on 9 September\, 9.00pm GMT+8.\n \nAccess the livestream and watch past archives via http://genfree.maduro.sg. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \n• Due to COVID-19 related guidelines\, this performance will only be offered virtually. • All event information is correct at time of print.

SUMMARY:Genfree 003 - Thank God Its Funk
DESCRIPTION:DAVID LOKE\, violinJONATHAN SHIN\, pianoRIT XU\, fluteJOACHIM THEODORE LIM\, percussionEUGENE CHEW\, bass \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nMaduro & YST Conservatory presentGENFREE /ˈdʒænˌˈfri/ n. \nIf love is what makes the world go round\, then funk is the thump that makes your booties bump. Doesn’t matter if it’s classical\, jazz\, motown or funk – every genre has that undeniable rhythm that’s made of the stuff that makes your socks go up and down. Join Lorong Boys’ hunks of funk Rit Xu as he fires up the flute and Joachim Lim punch up the backbeat as our next edition of GENFREE takes you back to that first funk song that really did you in – the one that got your feet tapping\, the noose off your neck\, and when it finally feels like the beat’s got your back. The one that never fails to get your funk on\, or GTFO\, pardon our French.\n \nDon’t get too comfortable\, empty out a dance floor and have a big swig of liquid courage at arm’s length. Because even though it’s a Wednesday\, GENFREE 003 will have you howling TGIF! That’s Thank God It’s Funk\, but you already know that.\n \n30 September\, 9.00pm GMT+8\, funky time.\n \nGENFREE is supported by National Arts Council’s Digital Presentation Grant and part of their #SGCultureAnywhere movement.\n \nAccess the livestream and watch past archives via http://genfree.maduro.sg. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \n• Due to COVID-19 related guidelines\, this performance will only be offered virtually. • All event information is correct at time of print.
