SUMMARY:Noon Recital: First Year Creative Project
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS EVENT \n \nEvery year\, we dedicate the very first Wednesday Noon Recital to our new cohort of Year 1s as they begin to unfold their story. The twist? There are no scores written prior to the event – the creative project is improvised and composed within days\, bringing together live and virtual elements! While we don’t know how the story will go\, we do know it will be a remarkable and significant tale. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStudent contributor: Xia Yixuan (Year 2\, MS/MCP) \nTHEME: Alone\, Together \nThis years’ COVID situation has posed a particular challenge for our freshmen: how could they make this creative project into a truly collaborative experience? By sending each other video postcards\, and integrating these into the final piece\, they have been able to collectively address themes as loneliness\, boredom\, fear\, communication and the desire to meet and make music together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event will be livestreamed on the Conservatory’s YouTube channel. Follow and subscribe to be notified of upcoming streams. \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION • Due to COVID-19 related guidelines\, this performance will only be offered virtually. • All event information is correct at time of print.

Event Etymology: Music from the middle ground1. A wordplay on the intersection of genre and free2. A midweek evening of music presented by students\, faculty and alumni of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music streamed live from Maduro that adopts classical music as a springboard into a lexicon of musical genres comprising jazz\, folk\, improvisation and the ilk\, insofar as to crossover into the realm of mixology. We mark the debut of GENFREE on 26 January with the doleful grandeur and rich passion of violin virtuoso Yuchen Zhang alongside Bernard Lanskey and Yun-hua Chang on piano and Louis Woosuk Jeong on cello as they take you through musical landscapes\, diving headfirst into the works of J.S. Bach\, Debussy and Rachmaninoff. Get a glimpse across the bar into Maduro SG‘s new cocktail programme waiting to be uncovered through an inspired drink pairing. Back on the stage\, multifaceted violinist David Loke and pianist-composer Jonathan Shin of the Lorong Boys complete an evening for the senses with improvisations in G minor. \nThis event will be livestreamed on http://genfree.maduro.sg\, and will also appear as part of the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music International Symposium 2020 (Online Edition).   \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \n• Due to COVID-19 related guidelines\, this performance will only be offered virtually. • All event information is correct at time of print.
