SUMMARY:Sounding Now Festival 2019: CD PRESENTATION Necessità D’interrogare Il Cielo
DESCRIPTION:CD PRESENTATION NECESSITÀ D’INTERROGARE IL CIELO \nPatrick Stadler performs excerpts of the cycle for soprano saxophone solo by Giorgio Netti \nABOUT PATRICK STADLER\nPatrick Stadler\, born in Donaueschingen in 1985\, is one of the most versatile saxophonists of our time. He works as a soloist as well as with various chamber music ensembles in the field of contemporary music and is always looking for new forms of expression. In doing so\, he works closely with young and established composers and makes a significant contribution to the creation of new works. Numerous world premieres and international concert activities testify to his great commitment. He regularly performs at renowned festivals\, such as the Donaueschingen Musiktage\, Schwetzingen Festival\, Lucerne Festival\, Wien Modern and Darmstadt Ferienkurse. \nIn guest appearances with larger formations such as the Collegium Novum Zurich\, Ensemble Phace\, Klangforum Heidelberg and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra\, he has had the opportunity to work with Peter Eötvös\, Clement Power\, Emilio Pomarico\, Peter Rundel and many more. He has performed as a soloist with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra\, Basel Chamber Orchestra\, Basel Symphony Orchestra\, the Philharmonie of Central Switzerland and the Orchestre Tibor Varga Sion. \nPatrick Stadler has participated in several CD productions and radio recordings in Germany\, Belgium\, France\, Switzerland and Austria. With the internationally renowned ensemble Nikel he released four CDs and a DVD in 2017\, documenting the activities of the four musicians of the past ten years. In 2019 his first Solo-CD with the complete recording of the 70 minute piece „necessità d’interrogare il cielo“ by the Italian composer Giorgio Netti will be released on the KAIROS Label. \nSince 2015 he teaches at the music academy in Freiburg after previously work- ing as an assistant and representative of Prof. Marcus Weiss at the University of Music in Basel. In addition\, he gives work- shops and master classes worldwide for saxophonists\, composers and in chamber music. \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nSounding Now is a festival of contemporary music that brings together divergent contemporary practices – composition\, electronic music\, installation\, and improvisation – with the goal connecting people of different artistic communities – both listeners and practitioners – in order to explore the ways their shared interests intersect. \n\n\n\n\nSounding Now Festival 2019\n\n\n\n\nSounding Now Blog\n\n\n\n\nSPONSORED BY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETING INFORMATION\n• Free admission.• All event information is correct at time of print.• Out of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission.

SUMMARY:Sounding Now Festival 2019: Become Your Own Patron
DESCRIPTION:BECOME YOUR OWN PATRON WITH DAVID SMITH\nIs right now the best time in history to be making music? Passepartout Duo discusses who they are\, what they do\, and what it means to be an independent artist making music in 2019. \nABOUT PASSEPARTOUT DUO\nEver since they began collaborating in 2015\, the musicians of Passepartout Duo have sought to revitalize the forms and practice of contemporary music through immersive events\, interpretive music videos\, and interdisciplinary projects that emphasize blurring cultural and aesthetic borders. \nStriving to be catalysts for the global mobility of art and artists\, Nicoletta Favari (piano) & Christopher Salvito (percussion) have taken the works of emerging and established composers all over the world. They complement the existing and commissioned repertoire with their own original compositions often taking inspiration from their travels. Creating films that document their interpretations and compositions\, they seek to showcase contemporary classical music in accessible formats through online videos \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nSounding Now is a festival of contemporary music that brings together divergent contemporary practices – composition\, electronic music\, installation\, and improvisation – with the goal connecting people of different artistic communities – both listeners and practitioners – in order to explore the ways their shared interests intersect. \n\n\n\n\nSounding Now Festival 2019\n\n\n\n\nSounding Now Blog\n\n\n\n\nTICKETING INFORMATION\n• Free admission.• All event information is correct at time of print.• Out of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission.

SUMMARY:Forum Series: The Learning Curve - Why Am I Learning Music?
DESCRIPTION:KHOO HUI LING\, presenter \nABOUT THE EVENT\nThe Learning Curve is a new and ongoing series led by Dr. Khoo Hui Ling\, which explores challenging aspects of teaching and learning in music education. It is a discussion not just for educators\, but for students and parents too; it tackles issues both public and private music educators may confront\, raises questions students can reflect on\, and discusses decisions that parents often struggle with.‘Why Am I Learning Music?’ is the first of this series. It is a question students of all levels ask\, whether out of frustration or plain curiosity. Masked behind this question are issues of motivation and learning objectives. This presentation explores the vastly different outcomes that varying answers to the above question lead to. It lays on the table approaches that educators and parents can take to nurture an environment of inspired musical learning. \nABOUT KHOO HUI LING\nFor pianist Khoo Hui Ling\, playing the piano is a vulnerable and precious expression of what is in the heart\, beyond where words can go. She enjoys sharing this experience through both performing and teaching. Hui Ling is currently Instructor in Music Studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music\, and Founder and Pedagogy Consultant at The Music Studios\, where she mentors piano teachers and students. Prior to her current teaching appointments\, she has taught in various capacities – as a teaching intern at the Peabody Preparatory\, a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon\, and a Higher Music Programme teacher at Nanyang Girls’ High School in Singapore. \nTICKETING INFORMATION\n• Free admission.• All event information is correct at time of print.• Out of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission.
