The years between 1880 and 1920 are sometimes refered to as “The golden age of opera”. During this time opera had certainly bloomed in the nordic countries especially Denmark and Sweden. Nordic composers took to writing expressive songs that were influenced by German composers but had a distinctive nordic element and with melodies and style that was perhaps closer to italin opera than the German Lied. Thora Einarsdottir, Ulrika Tenstam and Leif Lundberg will perform and introduce songs from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
A recital of songs by Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, Gunnar Frumerie, Carl Nielsen, Ture Rangström, Hugo Alfvén, Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson and Sigfús Einarsson.
