LIEW KONGMENG, presenter
ABOUT THE EVENT
For many of us, music is an integral part of everyday life. From representing self-identity to cheering us up on bad days, the music we listen to must carry a purpose if we keep returning to it in different situations. Yet can we really assume that these purposes are universal across cultures, or do socio-cultural mechanisms influence us our musical choices?
Through machine learning and other empirical approaches, Kongmeng has sought to answer these questions. This forum presents part of his research on the cultural specificities that influence the way individuals from different countries experience and listen to music.
