Adeline Wong, presenter
How many of us can name at least three women composers? How many have performed music written by women composers? How many of us can rattle off a list of music by women we performed in orchestras, ensembles or in our applied area?
In this presentation, composer Adeline Wong discusses three piano etudes written by three women composers – Louise Talma, Unsuk Chin and Adeline Wong herself. While the etude has been known to be a common musical form designed to provide pianists with practice material for perfecting a particular technical skill, the modern piano etudes seek out new compositional parameters and constructional means. The presentation will largely focus on pitch and textural organizations found in the three works.
Adeline Wong is a faculty member of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Her works have been performed by the Belgian National Orchestra, Orkest de ereprijs, the Netherlands, Bang on A Can USA, The Song Company, Australia, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
