Alfred Schnittke's Serenade is a quintet for clarinet, violin, bass, piano, and percussion written in 1968. It is one of his first polystylistic works, a compositional approach that would define works of his later years. This presentation will explore the work both historically and analytically, looking at it in the context of Soviet history as well as exploring the compositional strategies the composer employs and the styles he references.
