ABIGAIL SIN, piano/presenter
Intermezzo in A, Op. 118 No. 2
Etude: Hommage à Brahms (2013)
4 Klavierstücke, Op.119
ABOUT THIS EVENT
In this lecture recital, pianist Abigail Sin introduces two recent compositions by Jörg Widmann and Brett Dean which were inspired by the late piano works of Johannes Brahms. Jörg Widmann's Intermezzi, written in 2010 for Andras Schiff, explores "latently menacing structures of melancholy beauty", while Brett Dean's Hommage à Brahms (2013) was conceived as a set of interludes to be played between the 4 Klavierstücke, Op.119. These works by Widmann and Dean engage in a fascinating dialogue with the much-loved Brahms piano pieces and invite us to listen to them in a different light
