Peter Edwards, presenter
Assoc. Prof. Peter Edwards analyzes Luciano Berio's Linea for 2 pianos, vibraphone, and marimba. Composed in 1973 and premiered the following year, this work was the first that Berio created specifically for dance. The work is an exploration of melody and the potential of any melody to transform into different and more complex forms. Linea will be performed by Steven Schick along with members of OpusNovus when he leads the ensemble in their concert at the SOTA Studio Theatre on 16 April 2017.
Peter Edwards is a composer who creates acoustic and electro-acoustic works. Additionally, he collaborates with other musicians to create and perform works based in indeterminacy or improvisation. He is particularly interested in how the computer can assist in the creation of new works, either to create acoustic compositions or signal processing environments.
His music has been performed at festivals including June in Buffalo, Darmstadt Ferienkurse für neue Musik, MATA, Wien Modern, and Donaueschinger Musiktage, amongst others, in America, Asia, and Europe. He is also a found member of Zero Crossing, a duo for percussion and electronics.
