Sylvia Wang is Associate Professor of Piano at Northwestern University. Her work as soloist, chamber musician, guest teacher and adjudicator has taken her across the U.S., Europe, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. Dr. Wang holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has recorded for the Newport Classic, CRI, Northeastern and Boston records labels, and is the author of Memorization and Music, released through iTunes, as well as its Kindle counterpart, Memorization and the Pianist.
Dr. Wang will discuss the issue of memorization as a whole, isolating common root problems and their causes, together with solutions and methods to tackle these issues. The practical and psychological analysis is relevant to all musicians who perform from memory.
