SUMMARY:Plenary Performance: Huang Hsin Yun - FantaC
DESCRIPTION:HUANG HSIN YUN\, viola \nPROGRAMME\nBACHPrelude from 3rd Suite for Violoncello senza Basso \nLIGETIHora Lungå \nHINDEMITH Solo Sonata Op. 25\, No. 1 \nVIEUXTEMPSCapriccio \nGARTH KNOX9 Fingers \nJOAN TOWERWild Purple \nBACHSarabande and Gigue from 5th Suite for Violoncello senza Basso \nKENJI BUNCH3 Gs \nABOUT THE EVENT\n\nThe program FantaC has lived in my head for a year. It started with my dream of incorporating the Ligeti work into a choreographed project with dance. Then I reflected that if I was able to build more around it\, it could become a “program” and stand on its own. In another sense\, this is a celebration of wonderful viola movements and pieces from many fabulous composer-violists — Paul Hindemith\, Garth Knox\, Kenji Bunch and perhaps Bach in his day with a viola d’Amore.  \n\nViolist Hsin-Yun Huang has forged a career by performing on international concert stages\, commissioning and recording new works\, and nurturing young musicians. Here\, she presents a programme for solo viola which encapsulates the essence of the instrument. \nThis performance is presented as part of Performers(‘) Present 2019: Telling Stories. \n\n\n\n\nProgramme Notes\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM\nNarratives – whether historical\, political\, or musical; whether fact or fiction – are inextricably bound to the ways we experience the world\, and the art that translates these experiences. \nIn the decade since we began hosting the triennial Performers(‘) Present symposium\, artistic research has been undergoing rapid and ground-shifting transformations\, with the performer’s voice becoming ever more present. As with our previous symposia\, Telling Stories seeks to address and evolve the kaleidoscopic issues facing 21st-century performers\, as they reflect on their practice in the context of significant shifts in politics\, communications and technology\, and performance practice.  \nCome join us and the artistic research community at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music from 23 – 26 October 2019\, as we reflect on the power of music narratives and celebrate their narrators in Performers(‘) Present 2019: Telling Stories. \n\n\n\n\nLearn More\n\n\n\n\nTICKETING INFORMATION\n• Free admission.• All event information is correct at time of print.• Out of respect for other concertgoers\, no children under 6 years of age will be allowed admission.
