SUMMARY:OpusNovus: Homage to Boulez
DESCRIPTION:OpusNovus pays tribute to Pierre Boulez (1925–2016)\, the visionary French composer and conductor who shaped contemporary music. The programme opens and closes with Boulez’s crystalline miniatures\, the shimmering Dérive 1 and the elegiac Mémoriale\, featuring our new Head of Winds\, Associate Professor Eric Lamb. \nBetween these pillars\, works by composers from Boulez’s constellation chart a journey through contemporary sound: Dai Fujikura’s playful Deconstructing Franz reimagines classical materials\, while George Crumb’s Music for the Starry Night evokes celestial wonder through his signature timbral alchemy.
