SUMMARY:Genfree 002 - The Thing That Makes the World Go 'Round
DESCRIPTION:DAVID LOKE\, violinJONATHAN SHIN\, pianoRIT XU\, fluteJOACHIM THEODORE LIM\, percussion \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nMaduro & YST Conservatory presentGENFREE /ˈdʒænˌˈfri/ n. Event Etymology: Music from the middle ground1. A wordplay on the intersection of genre and free2. A midweek evening of music presented by students\, faculty and alumni of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music streamed live from Maduro that adopts classical music as a springboard into a lexicon of musical genres comprising jazz\, folk\, improvisation and the ilk\, insofar as to crossover into the realm of mixology. \nPicking up from a doleful debut that delved into the spot between bitter and sweet wherein lied the key of G minor\, we return a little wiser\, a little heartened\, doe-eyed and bushy tailed as multifaceted violinist David Loke and pianist-composer Jonathan Shin—along with Rit Xu on flute and Joachim Lim on percussion—of the Lorong Boys return to the stage to give you a musical education in the birds and the bees. Namely\, the birds that appear and the bees that linger when you are near. \nWe’re talking love\, baby. The good\, the bad\, the ride-or-die ugly; the buffoonery of a great love that came\, conquered and turned entire lives upside down. With classical music as a springboard into the lexicon of genres\, let the boys take you on a romantic stroll down the canal of love songs\, charting through the classics with Romances by the likes of Saint-Saëns and one of our own\, right down to modern-day love songs that are sure to strike a chord. Or an arrow.
