SUMMARY:Conservatory Orchestra Series: Springs of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:PROGRAMME \nANTON WEBERN Variationen (1940)  \nAARON COPLAND Appalachian Spring (Ballet for Martha) (1944) \nRICHARD STRAUSS Metamorphosen (1945) \nMusicians List \nABOUT THIS EVENT \n \nSprings of Uncertainty\, a concert-stream-experience from the YST Orchestral Institute \n The swift red flesh\, a winter king—Who squired the glacier woman down the sky?She ran the neighing canyons all the spring; She spouted arms; she rose with maize—to die.                                                   – Harold Hart Crane \nThe YST Orchestral Institute in collaboration with YST Artist Fellow\, Mervin Wong\, presents a live concert-stream-experience featuring three chamber orchestra masterpieces\, all composed during the throngs of World War II: Anton Webern’s 1940 Variationen\, Aaron Copland’s 1944 Appalachian Spring (Ballet for Martha)\, and Richard Strauss’s 1945 Metamorphosen. As music with multiplicities that resonate with our tumultuous 2020\, all three works explore intersections of isolation\, anxiety\, humanity’s relationship with nature\, and the mourning of lost idealized worlds; yet\, in each piece there are also transcendent shimmers of hope. As the Conservatory’s virtual 20/21 concert series ponders\, “Am I Human?”\, we offer reflective springs that remind us that we’ve all been here before\, and we all belong. \n\nCompendium Springs takes a deeper\, more interactive look into the stories and undercurrents in the programme. For the full experience\, it is best viewed on mobile.\n \n\n\nMobile link (with sound and video): bit.ly/compendium-springs\nDesktop link: bit.ly/compendium-springs-desktop\n\nLIVE: \nYouTube: bit.ly/springsofuncertaintyYT\nFacebook: bit.ly/springsofuncertaintyFB\nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION \n• Due to COVID-19 related guidelines\, this performance will only be offered virtually. • All event information is correct at time of print.
