DESCRIPTION:YURU LEE (B.MUS2)CHAIYAPHAT PREMPREE (B.MUS4)PEI HSIEN LU (B.MUS3)NG ZHENG JIECHRISTOPHER CLARKE (M.MUS2) \nPROGRAMME \nThis piece is motivated by the interaction in musical interplay between a computer and performer –– performer-controlled and controlled-performer. In a form that is familiar\, an instrument controlled by a performer would be classified as a performance-controlled interface\, in which the performer has the ability to exercise sentient thought and produce calculated decisions on the physical/digital interaction between him/her-self and the instrument. In that scenario\, the instrument produces acoustical feedback that results in the performer adapting (to whatever degree) to the instrument. \nWhat if we add upstream\, to the above scenario\, a human interface that controls a digital performance algorithm; in essence\, separating the performer from the human. The actuation of physical force is then controlled with machines\, namely push-pull solenoids with an Arduino micro-controller. I find that this creates an interesting scenario that could result in a multitude of compositional solutions. \nMusically\, this piece deals with the use of overlapping phase differing cycles. In the microcosm of the controlled performer\, the solenoids are tuned to work in different speeds – which result in different phases – to create asymmetrical patterns. The performers also play at varying tempi \, causing an imitation between the 2 modes of performer control. \n  \nTICKETING INFORMATION• Free admission.• All event information is correct at time of print.
