At the heart of it\, Monteverdi\, in the preface of his madrigal collection\, argues for ‘Seconda Pratica’\, a monodic style and freedom in dissonance treatment of the music justified by the expressive setting of texts. In this programme\, the YST Chamber Singers will explore music by Marenzio\, Gesualdo and Monterverdi\, of whom their seemingly excessive usage of chromaticism and extreme word painting\, exemplifies a style of writing many would consider ahead of their time\, and ventures into the depths of love\, passion\, pain and suffering.  \nSubscribe to YST’s mailing list. \nTICKETING INFORMATION• All event information is correct at time of print.
