Bachelor of Music & Young Artist
1. A legato styled etude such as a Bordogni or Concone etude
i.e. “Rochut Melodious Etudes for Trombone, Book 1, Etude No. 2”
2. A selection of two orchestral excerpts for tuba from the standard orchestral repertoire such as Richard Wagner’s “Prelude to Die Meistersinger” or “Ride of the Valkyries”
3. A solo of candidate’s choice
Master of Music
A recital of 50-55 minutes displaying various styles and periods of repertoire.
Repertoire submitted will be vetted by the Head of Brass Studies before they can be accepted.
Note: Candidates are to note that major and minor scales may be tested during the audition at the discretion of the audition panel. An additional short study piece will be given to the candidate on the day of audition. The live audition for tuba major will normally include a 20-minute audition, a 5-minute interview and a short English oral test (for overseas candidates not exempted from the Qualifying English Test). In addition, candidates who are in a competitive position for an offer of admission will receive a 30-minute one-to-one lesson with a major teacher or the head of department.
